Aesop Rock - 'The Impossible Kid'

8/10

Following on from his last album 'Skelethon', an extremely well-received release, US rapper Aesop Rock returns to deliver his new LP with a slightly different outlook on life. Since the release of his last full-length, the MC has since moved away from San Francisco after the death of a close friend. As a result, this work now looks to explore life, death and relationships, something that has really helped bring this release to a whole new level.

With solid and intelligent lyrics flowing over an 8-bit and nostalgia-inspired production, 'The Impossible Kid' is pretty unique in its sound. Imagine if Run The Jewels hired the Sega Mega Drive composers to work on their next album and it wouldn't sound too different, but what helps this album stay out from the fray is the sheer passion within Aesop's own delivery. The dexterity of his flow is inspiring and becomes the most memorable part of this new full-length.

It is certainly an accomplished return for this already well-respected name in rap music. With a sound unlike anything in the mainstream, 'The Impossible Kid' stands out with brilliant intensions as a progressive and forward-thing voice in the rap game.
