ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 197 Our Girl

With the release of their eagerly-awaited debut album on the horizon, the Brighton-via-London trio Our Girl look to ramp up the buzz behind their first full-length with the release of their latest woozy release.

The new single 'In My Head' brilliantly showcases the direction and tone this band plan to take on their new LP. With strong homages to the shoegaze era, as well as influences from the likes of Warpaint, 'In My Head' is a mix of swirling guitars and sultry vocals that seems to build and build before the finishing in a strong and controlled way.

“I wrote this song during a big time of change in my life which informed a lot of the record,” explains frontwoman Soph Nathan. “I was feeling particularly confused and regretful about it all one day and the lyrics just came out in one go. Musically it took a bit longer. The bass and vocals were there from the start so it was just figuring out how to build the rest on top. We gave up on it for a while, and about a year after that we played it in a soundcheck in Leeds without thinking, and it all just came out right! It’s one of our favourites to play live now.”

Their debut album 'Stranger Today' is set to be released on the 17th August via Cannibal Hymns before the band head off on an extensive UK tour later in the year. Have a listen to 'In My Head' in the player below.
