ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 26 Ibeyi

As we come out of 2014 and into a new year, a whole new batch of artists have begun to emerge in the hope of making 2015 their own. And one of the acts that began to peak our interests in the dying months of the previous year were the Cuban siblings, collectively known as Ibeyi.

Having grown up in as musical household, with their father being famed percussionist Anga Díaz of Buena Vista Social Club, twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz formed Ibeyi in 2013 with the intention of creating their own take on the downtempo RnB, dominated by the likes of FKA Twigs in the previous year.

The pair released their debut EP 'Oya' last year and managed to gather them international acclaim as well as regular rotation on some of the world's major radio stations. But wasting no time in getting established, the twins have already begun planning the release of their debut studio album later this year. A record which no doubt should become one of the most in-demand of 2015.

With breathtaking vocals and a haunting approach to production, Ibeyi are one of the most unique acts we have heard in a while and will surely become one of our favourite new names in the months to come.
