ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No.284 - Spoort

Having now found themselves on the House Anxiety label, the London-based imprint that formerly introduced the world to the likes of King Krule, Courtney Barnett, Keyah/Blu, MIKE and Vagabon, newcomers Spoort now look to ready us for their debut EP with the release of their very first single 'Self'.

Taking influence from YouTube algorithms, Carl Sagan, and cult-jazz God Bill Evans, the midlands-based indie outfit deliver a fine and uplifting dose of guitar hooks and soaring vocals on their debut release. Vocalist Andrew King keeps his accent intact for this vibrant new track, giving it a quaintly British sound throughout.

Speaking about their new offering, the band said, "‘Self’ is a warning against objectivity and a calling to understand where we are in the universe before we ever attempt to do anything in it.”

While the video's director Ash Rommelrath adds, "The video is inspired by enduring growing up in the Midlands, the bleak heartland of the United Kingdom, something that both myself and Spoort had in common. We wanted to create a nostalgic homage to fan passion, obsession and mania, and how it can run wild. Turn on, tune in, drop out.”
