ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No.517 - Fredrik Svabø

Renowned Norwegian musician, composer, and producer Fredrik Svabø has announced his highly anticipated debut solo album 'Kingo’s Treat', set for release on the 14th March. Alongside the announcement comes the album’s second single 'Sophie', featuring the evocative vocals of fellow Norwegian artist Thea Wang.

'Sophie' tells the poignant story of a woman being cared for by her community following a profound loss. Thea Wang’s tender and melancholic vocal performance captures the emotional core of the track, expressing both the weight of sorrow and the urge to escape its constant presence. While Svabø’s intricate composition draws on his love of jazz, blending chiming guitar, mournful trumpet, and undulating drums to create an immersive instrumental backdrop. The result is a deeply moving piece that reflects themes of heartbreak, indecision, and the search for new beginnings.

On the lyrical inspiration behind Sophie, Svabø reflects, “It’s a reflection on the emptiness that lingers after loss and how it can transform you. Meeting a world that keeps moving around you while you just try to keep up and get through the day. It tells a story about a person who has all these unspoken struggles, trapped in a cycle trying to outrun her pain.”

Following last year’s debut single 'Running', 'Sophie' is the second glimpse into a project that has been over half a decade in the making. 'Kingo’s Treat' promises to be a deeply personal and richly textured debut, showcasing Svabø’s versatility and passion for musical discovery.
