Augustines - 'This Is Your Life'

7/10

Following on from their well-recieved 2014 self-titled album, Augustines return with their third studio effort 'This Is Your Life'. Between this album and last, frontman Billy McCarthy embarked on a solo tour of European, something many thought was the beginning of the end for the group but in actual fact, has brought them new ideas and a slightly different sound to their norm.

Fans of the group will know them for their epic songwriting and chant-along choruses that make them the big, burly group of men they are. But 'This Is Your Life' seems to prefer to tinker with band's standard direction and the occasional electronic sound and percussion sneaks in, thus giving the record a very old-meets-new feel. You get this sense that they are looking to broaden their horizons on this new release, and for the most part, it pays off well.

The record is concise and well-produced throughout. It still maintains a lot of those old familiar angles the band is known for but with an extra twist that keeps it interesting. Definitely some of their best material here.
