Ever since they first emerged, Brooklyn-based outfit Awksymoron have always looked to project a warming and emotive aesthetic with everything they produce. Honing this shimmering dream-pop texture that floats along with careless abandon, the band's tenure has been this wildly immersive one that always seeks out the more tranquil side of their chosen genre. And after returning last year with a flurry of vibrant gems, they now look to cement their dynamic legacy to date with the release of their eagerly-awaited debut EP 'Ollie', a collection that heightens those wondrous ideals once again.
While the band's approach to sweeping and breezy soundscapes has already been well established , the star of this EP is undoubtedly Athena Matsil's cathartic vocal harmonies, who instantly gives the release a wonderfully distinctive texture. With her compelling voice at the helm, 'Ollie' makes its way through a riveting array of laid-back grooves and subtle tones. Whether it is the lofty approach to 'All Bets Are Off' or the swooning appeal of 'Outside Looking In', Awksymoron keep the vibes as breezy as possible, creating this beautifully alluring listening experience at every turn.
They have certainly made a strong impression on the scene over the years, but 'Ollie' shows they are still brimming with plenty of fresh and passionate ideas in which to explore. With such confidence in both their songwriting and production across all six-tracks, they are certainly ones we need to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
