Bang & Olufsen seeks rising star to win week-long recording studio residency

In anticipation of the eagerly-awaited cinematic release of BACK TO BLACK, which hits cinemas today (12th April), luxury audio brand Bang & Olufsen has joined forces with STUDIOCANAL to unveil an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring singer-songwriters.

Drawing inspiration from the creative aura surrounding artists like Amy Winehouse, the winning talent will find themselves immersed in the same artistic realm, supported by none other than mastering engineer Stuart Hawkes, renowned for his work on the iconic album 'Back To Black'. During a week-long residency at Metropolis Studios, the chosen artist will be guided through the recording and mixing processes, aiming to craft two professionally mastered tracks under the tutelage of the Metropolis production team. The victorious artist will not only secure the coveted Metropolis Studios residency but also have the rare opportunity to perform alongside Winehouse’s original band during the event.

This initiative follows the resounding success of Bang & Olufsen’s B&O Music Lates event series, which illuminated London’s burgeoning talent scene within the brand's flagship Mayfair store, solidifying its reputation as a cultural epicentre.

Zoe Baddeley, Head of Marketing & PR (UK & IE) at Bang & Olufsen, said, “Bang & Olufsen of Mayfair was designed to foster a culture of collaboration and creativity – and we hope the competition will build a bridge between London’s emerging artists and the music industry.”

In a celebration of Winehouse's enduring legacy, a panel of industry luminaries including Sam Taylor-Johnson, Stuart Hawkes, and a distinguished music industry expert will handpick three finalists. These finalists will then showcase their talent at an exclusive London event on May 1st, where the ultimate winner will be crowned.

Singer-songwriters eager to seize this remarkable chance can submit their entry, comprising a brief introduction and a video performance of an original piece of music, by visiting the competition portal here. Finalists will be announced by April 23rd, with the grand finale set to take place in London on May 1st.

As BACK TO BLACK graces screens across the UK & Ireland on April 12th, 2024, director Sam Taylor-Johnson's latest masterpiece promises to captivate audiences, charting Winehouse's illustrious journey to stardom with Marisa Abela portraying the iconic musician.
