BBC Sound Of 2019 shortlist revealed

As it does every year, the BBC aim to predict who amongst the crop of great musicians emerging this year will become the next big thing in the following twelve months, and have now unveiled their selection for the Sound Of 2019.

Notable characters such as Mahalia (pictured), Flohio, and Rosalía have all made the cut this year, but aside from indie newcomers Sea Girls, every name on this year's shortlist is a solo act. The ten artists were chosen by an elite panel of industry experts, which included Stormzy, Radio 1’s Annie Mac, co-organiser of Glastonbury Emily Eavis, and Years & Years' Olly Alexander, and the countdown for next year's winner will begin on Annie Mac's radio show from the 7th January, with the winner being named on the 11th January.
