BLOXX - 'Modern Day'

8/10

When London-based outfit BLOXX released their stunning debut album 'Lie Out Loud' in 2020, it was greeted as one of the more exciting releases of that year. Having already built a strong and devout fanbase in the years prior, their first full-length cemented them as a shining light on the new music scene, elevated even further with their follow-up EP 'Pop Culture Radio' the year after. But after the pandemic stalled their momentum, they are now looking to get back to their best as they deliver their eagerly-awaited new EP 'Modern Day', a release brimming with bright and invigorating energy.

Much like what they have shown already, 'Modern Day' looks to create this wonderfully rich and euphoric aesthetic. Honing more of that relatable lyrical content and appeal they have been developing since their earliest beginnings, this new five-track collection gives us a great insight into their mindset as a band right now. Although it feels more like a litmus test to see where to take their sound next, it still manages to pack plenty of punches despite its short runtime.

BLOXX have always skirted the peripheries of the commercial scene, but 'Modern Day' feels like their most accessible offering to date. Creative and passionate from start to finish, it feels like they are building up to something very big on the horizon throughout.
