Bully - 'Losing'

8/10

After releasing their debut album 'Feels Like' back in 2015, the Nashville rock outfit Bully were immediately compared to a whole host of 90s grunge acts. With their raucous sound and some incredible vocal performances from frontwoman Alicia Bognanno, the band certainly made an impression on lovers of Sonic Youth and Hole. Now returning for album number two, Bully have heard what people liked about their debut and amplified on those areas.

Straight from its opener 'Feel The Same', 'Losing' sets itself up as a nostalgic take on the US rock sound. Keeping the same DIY credentials as their first full-length, this new release seems to show them continuing through their chosen path of rough guitar licks and impassioned screams from their lead singer. While it may sound very similar to their debut, there is a clear evolution in their sound this time, giving themselves more room to grow on this LP.

You'll be hard pressed to find a clear distinction between this album and the last, but given their very brief career so far, Bully are sticking to their guns and delivering exactly what their fans expect of them. And overall, 'Losing' does that with gusto and aplomb.
