Car Seat Headrest - 'Twin Fantasy'

7/10

Over the last year or so, we have begun to notice a trend of artists reworking their previous albums in order to create a completely new sounding piece of work. And now it is the turn of frontman Will Toledo aka Car Seat Headrest to take his much-loved 2011 album 'Twin Fantasy' and return with a completely transformed collection of songs, that mixes up the pace and production of those beloved original tracks.

While some may see the original 'Twin Fantasy' as a classic that doesn't deserve to be messed around with, it is clear from this rework that the frontman has had some very diverse ideas as to what to do with his formative release. Switching up the tempo and sound of each track has allowed him to experiment with a whole range of new processes, finding what fits his writing best and deliver a record with a huge range of eclectic and interesting directions.

It may be more of a fan release than a general one, but even those unfamiliar with the original will find plenty to enjoy on here. Toledo's songwriting remains the penetrating force on this record and manages to maintain a lot of that original spark from 2011.
