Caroline Rose - 'The Art Of Forgetting'

7/10

Throughout their tenure to date, Caroline Rose has been an extremely enigmatic and adventurous name upon the scene. While originally breaking through with her highly-praised LP 'Loner' in 2018, their next collection 'Superstar' arrived just weeks before the world shut down from the pandemic, leaving it largely unnoticed just as they began to branch out into a more explorative guise. But not one to succumb to situations out of their control, they return once again to deliver the rousing new studio album 'The Art Of Forgetting', a record that looks to reflect that difficult time in their life.

Written during a personal breakup as well, 'The Art Of Forgetting' looks to shake off the shackles of their former self and invite a more sombre aesthetic to their direction this time around. Keeping the feel and flow of this new release as warm and tender as possible, there is this wonderfully endearing thread running the length of this new full-length. Capturing some of their most heartfelt compositions to date, their newest offering marks a vital turning point within their career so far, something that feels more renewed and confident than most.

While it does feel like a strong veer away from where 'Superstar' seemed to be heading, 'The Art Of Forgetting' still makes for a beautifully passionate listen throughout. Honing a strong and confident approach to their sound and songwriting from beginning to end, it feels like we are entering a new phase within the Caroline Rose saga once again.
