Constant Reverie - 'Astray'

7/10

Despite only emerging in October last year, US artist and producer Constant Reverie has already established himself as one of the more prolific names doing the rounds. Churning out a vibrant array of releases in the months since, including two studio albums, his rise has been an exceptional one to say the least. And true to his form so far, he now continues his mission to deliver broad and captivating melodies with his latest EP 'Astray', a collection that highlights more of that rich and dynamic energy he is bringing to the scene.

Much like his recent material, 'Astray' is a compelling yet varied blend of ideas and textures. Honing more towards the sweeping sound of lo-fi hip-hop or soul-inspired rhythms, this new three-track outing makes for a wildly adventurous listen despite such a short runtime. Effortlessly shifting gears throughout the release, sometimes mid-track, to create this brilliantly unpredictable groove throughout, Constant Reverie uses this innovative mix of instrumentation to bring his latest vision to life, something that highlights the brightened ingenuity of his material since he first arrived.

It has certainly been a busy and productive time for him recently, but 'Astray' shows that he is far from running low on new and interesting ideas. Continuing to deliver a warm and shimmering approach to his sound at every turn, this new EP stands as a wonderfully refined progression in his short yet impactful tenure to date.
