Courtney Barnett & Stella Mozgawa - 'End Of The Day'

7/10

Over the last decade, both Courtney Barnett and Stella Mozgawa, best known as the drummer in Warpaint, have been seen as two of the most influential names on the Australian music scene. With a combined ambition to drive the modern indie-rock sound forward into new and interesting directions, they have both never failed to impress and innovative throughout their illustrious careers to date. But now they are embarking on a new challenge as they deliver the new instrumental album 'End Of The Day', a record that puts them both completely out of their comfort zones.

Originally recorded as a musical accompaniment to the documentary Anonymous Club, 'End Of The Day' is a beautifully rich and alluring outing that uses sparse and sweeping soundscapes to create a wonderfully inviting sound. With each of the two artists playing off one another throughout this new offering, it has this brilliantly rich and dense texture to it, showcasing some of their most experimental ideas to date.

Although it may not be what the pair are used to making in their formative guises, there is still something immersive about these new songs. Tranquil yet progressive from start to finish, 'End Of The Day' marks a strong and shimmering entry in their catalogues to date.
