Death Grips - 'Year Of The Snitch'

7/10

It doesn't seem that long ago that we were mourning the untimely demise of Death Grips after they announced they were disbanding back in 2014. But after returning with a brilliant new album in the form of 'Bottomless Pit' the year after, Death Grips are back once again with their sixth studio release 'Year Of The Snitch', a record that shows them as a far more refine and focused entity.

Death Grips have always had this out-of-control personality to them. Their sheer energy and unpredictability was what made them sure an intriguing force in their initial career, but now six albums in, the band have delivered something with a little more cohesion to it. While it may not have the sheer tenacity of some of their previous work, 'Year Of The Snitch' still manages to sound fresh but in the guise of a group that seems more comfortable in their direction and finds itself taking less risks as it plays.

It is still very much Death Grips but with a more self-assured intention. The bold and brash sound they were known for may not be as in-your-face on this album, but it still packs a punch when it needs to and goes a long way in reestablishing their place as one of the most captivating artists on the planet.
