Dimitri & The Scarecrow - 'In Hindsight'

7/10

Over the last decade, Zimbabwean artist Dimitri D. Kwenda has always looked to pursue a more varied and enigmatic approach than most. Since departing his homeland in 2015, living in a number of countries in the years since, his sound has taken on this extremely multinational direction, allowing him to explore and pursue new ideas in which to inject into his progressive aesthetic of late. And after a number of years since his last outing, he returns with his eagerly-awaited new EP 'In Hindsight', a release that pushes those creative endeavours further forward throughout.

Marked as the second entry in a trilogy of new EPs he has been working on recently, 'In Hindsight' feels like his most alluring and innovative effort yet. While honed very much to the driven hip-hop sound of the US right now, he effortlessly melts Afro-inspired textures and tones across this new five-track collection, building upon the adventurous spirit he has been showcasing, and creating a wonderfully warm and inviting listen in the process.

While the diverse array of guest artists littered across this new EP certainly adds a dynamic flair to it, Dimitri's powerful flow remains the beating heart of this new offering. Keeping the vibes high and the production interesting at every turn, he returns with a wildly enjoyable new effort here.
