Ever since the release of their highly-praised self-titled debut album in 2022, sibling post-punkers Dubinski have been on an exceptional rise. Building upon the wondrous foundations of their initial LP with a wave of much-loved outings, all looking to add something new to their chosen field, the Edinburgh-based four-piece have been hotly-tipped as one of the more impactful names on the rise recently. And with that buzz around them continuing to build, they now look to cement this era within their legacy with their eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'What Is Your Definition Of Happiness?', a record that broadens their adventurous horizons further than ever.
While very much akin to the post-punk genre, 'What Is Your Definition Of Happiness?' looks to spread its creative wings as often as possible. Adopting a riveting synthwave-inspired aura to the mix, earning comparisons to the likes of Maximo Park and Parquet Courts, their newest outings finds them in this brilliantly inventive guise that looks to push their dynamic aesthetic as far as it will go. Creating this subtle ebb and flow of big riffs and more sombre moments, Dubinski respond to their recent praise with some of their more compelling material to date here.
While plenty has been said about their progressive direction lately, 'What Is Your Definition Of Happiness?' shows us exactly why so many have been flocking to them lately. Offering up this vibrant array of killer anthems as often as possible, they are showcasing themselves as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds on today's new music scene.
