DZ Deathrays - 'Bloody Lovely'

7/10

Since their infancy, Aussie fuzz-rock duo DZ Deathrays have always been about the blistering rock riffs. And after a prolonged break since their 2014 album 'Black Rat', the pair have returned to share their third full-length release 'Bloody Lovely', a record that manages to display a newer direction for them without leaving their distorted roots behind.

From the start, 'Bloody Lovely' aims to act like business as usually for the band. Opener 'Shred For Summer' acted as both lead single and introduction to the release, and while it isn't the strongest cut on here, it does warm us up to their latest material. As it plays, the record opens up all the various directions they have experimented with on their last two albums, but this time we see them far more honed and comfortable when it comes to breaking away from their core sound.

All in all, this is basically another great DZ record. Fast pace, hard guitars and a tenacious attitude that even after four years away couldn't be quelled. A solid fan favourite that sees them continue as one of down-under's most engaging rock outfits.
