Early Edison - 'The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It'

8/10

While originally part of the early 2000s alt-rock scene, New York's Early Edison made an unexpected comeback near the beginning of the 2020s, resulting in their much-loved EP 'Stockpile Syndrome'. Since then the band have been surging across the new music scene, releasing a flurry of new material that has reestablished them as one of the more formidable names doing the rounds right now. And after another wave of anthems in the last few months, they return once again with their latest EP 'The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It', a collection brimming with powerful emotion throughout.

While their sound has always looked to adopt a mixture of pop-punk and emo-inspired influences to it, 'The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It' feels like they have truly matured from their initial tenure and delivered something with a more forward-thinking edge to it. Not ones to fall into the commercially angled trap, this new six-track offering harks back to those traditional ideals within their genre, but rebranded for a modern ear. Tracks like 'Regrets' and the opener 'New York City' perfect reflect this ambitious nature they have cultivated, making for some brilliantly enjoyable anthems from start to finish.

It may be more than twenty years since they first made their mark, but Early Edison have really found their voice in recent years. 'The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It' is not just another batch of fresh offerings, but stands as one of their most captivating releases to date.
