Ellanika - 'Quicksand'

7/10

Ever since she first broke through with her brilliant debut EP 'Rayborn' last year, emerging artist Ellanika has been quick to establish herself as one of the more emotive names on the rise right now. Branching out from the conventions of the alt-pop sound in pursuit of something more tender than most, her work since has been this rich and subtle progression at every turn. And with things really starting to move for her right now, she returns with her latest EP 'Quicksand', a release that builds upon those vibrant ideals once again.

Much like what this past year has shown us, 'Quicksand' continues to showcase her as a warm and passionate name on the rise. Beaming with these broad and atmospheric textures that bounce effortlessly across her shimmering vocal performance, this new five-track collection already feels like a bold step forward in her musical evolution to date. With its heartfelt opener 'Lumen' and riveting title-track leading the charge here, she is moving with this beautiful elegance across everything she does, something many in her field have rarely been able to pull off convincingly.

While her journey may have only just gotten underway, 'Quicksand' shows there is still plenty of fresh and exciting ideas coursing through her. With such a sweet and immersive approach to her songwriting throughout, Ellanika is certainly a name worth keeping a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
