Over the last few years, XL Recordings head honcho Richard Russell has been using his Everything Is Recorded project to not only release a collection of interesting and diverse productions, but also see him work alongside some of the most brilliant and groundbreaking artists of the moment. And after a number of EPs and standalone singles, Russell has finally unveiled what is effectively his first studio album, the aptly titled 'Everything Is Recorded By Richard Russell'.
While it is clear that Russell looks to make himself the focus of this release, the reality is that it is the guest artists he works with that steal the show. From Sampha to Ibeyi, Giggs to Kasami Washington, each invited individual looks to stamp their own vision on the release, giving it a truly multifaceted and eclectic feel. But rather than simply embark fully into a collaborative record, there is still a solid tone and direction throughout the entire record, creating a beautiful ebb and flow as it plays.
It may have started as a small idea for the label owner, but this album truly delivers on the ambitions that were there when we first heard his work. A rich and soulful release that looks to honour incredible range of talent in today's industry in the best possible way.
