Eyecolour - 'Giallo'

8/10

Over this past year, Australian outfit Eyecolour have looked to establish themselves as one of the more distinctive names doing the rounds right now. Delivering this heady mix of neo-psychedelic, alt-indie, new wave, and dream-pop influences across a string of immersive singles so far, the band have been quick to create this beautifully alluring direction for themselves. And with the buzz around them continuing to build, they are now looking to cement their dynamic legacy to date with the release of their eagerly-awaited debut album 'Giallo', a record that continues that explorative spirit they have garnered for themselves.

The name 'Giallo' (pronounced jiahl-lo) is taken from a style of mid-century Italian thriller novels, and this new collection looks to perfectly reflect the broad and sombre aesthetic of that time. Keeping very much akin to their psychedelic roots, while still managing to explore a wider array of inspirations this time around, their initial full-length makes for a rich and refined listen at every turn. Creating this wonderfully spellbinding aura across all of its eight tracks, Eyecolour are certainly looking to make a bold statement with this one.

As far as debut LPs go, 'Giallo' is a brilliantly fresh and exciting journey that always offers up something surprising as it plays. Moving with this warm and subtle elegance from beginning to end, Eyecolour are a name we can certainly expect big things from in the months ahead as well.
