Fly Golden Eagle - 'Quartz Bijou'

8/10

While there is a good chance you have never heard of Nashville natives Fly Golden Eagle, the members themselves are in fact hugely involved with the current output of their musically-minded hometown. Having performed on new released for the likes of Benjamin Booker, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Majestico and Alabama Shakes, the band are almost seen as the catalyst of the entire Nashville scene and that unity comes across boldly on their latest studio album.

Very rarely does an album come along where you immediately get what it is trying to do. Most full-lengths take time to grow on you, but 'Quartz Bijou' has this instant connection with the listener, looking to swoon and excite as it plays. Taking huge influence from the psychedelic sound of The Doors and Pink Floyd, 'Quartz Bijou' not only encapsulates the American rock sound but also moves it towards a progressive and contemporary direction.

Soulful and blues-drenched throughout, Fly Golden Eagle have found themselves a style that not only pays homage to their heritage but also creates a forward-thinking presence within it. A wonderful listen from start to finish.
