Ever since they first broke through, Belgian trio Fortress have been one of the more commanding forces on the international synth-pop scene. With this broad and immersive aesthetic set to some electrifying textures as often as possible, their tenure to date has been this wildly explorative one that always looks to build on what has come before. And after the rousing response to their much-loved debut EP 'Dreamscape' early last year, they are now back to their best once again with their riveting sophomore EP 'Chroma', a collection that adds another vital layer to their ever-evolving direction to date.
While plenty has already been said about their progressive endeavours over the years, 'Chroma' feels like yet another bold step forward for their sound so far. Continuing to conjure those broad and anthemic textures they have become synonymous for across all six tracks, their newest offering finds them in wonderfully inventive spirits as they deliver some truly spellbinding delights here. Whether they are embarking on bold and euphoric pursuits or looking to lure us in with some beautifully endearing moments, Fortress always manage to find new and interesting avenues in which to take their absorbing aura at every turn.
It has certainly been an impactful time for them in recent years, but 'Chroma' shows they are still very much on top of their creative game right now. With such a firm and confident grasp over their style from beginning to end, this new EP stands as one of their more captivating releases to date.
