What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

An acoustic Guitar, it lived in the corner of my parents' living room... the strings were caked with dust and I was never sure how it got there, but there it was. The only song I could ever play on it was 'Something In the Way' by Nirvana, just that two chord string switches... I think I got a fender squire bullet after that... they’re very cheap I don’t know if they still make them... they weigh about the same as a Twix.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

I love making things from scratch, music or otherwise it’s the most satisfying thing I can think of...

Also, I’m not overly political and I’m a bit of a flake... I just love seeing people take any sort of joy with something I’ve written, I can’t think of a better inspiration then someone singing a lyric or laughing at something stupid I’ve said. That’s probably the biggest inspiration behind what I do.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

I loved Oasis, Nirvana, White Stripes, The Hives, I lived for the punkier grunge music and then that garage rock revival was amazing.

Can you remember the first song that made you want to pursue a life in music?

I think it was ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, I was playing Pokémon on a street corner and a friend’s brother introduced me to it... Two great things one day… I was in blonde heaven... (Pikachu // K Cobain)

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to a lot of music, Leon in the wild has been a permanent fixture in my playlists and he also did a cover of a song I wrote called Old Times that blew my mind, Midnight Wayne as well from Dublin, Ireland (where I am from) I actually did two separate podcasts with them if you want to hear questions followed by answers and filthy chats, the podcast is called “Giant Cast, with David, The Giant” Check it out!

How many of your songs have you written about people in your life?

None, I don’t think... there mainly about myself or stories I’ve made up... My new song “How Long” started about missing people in my life but it ended up something different, I am musically selfish or maybe just scared…

What has been the most unusual moment in your career so far?

The first emails from Label A&R people about meeting up to talk about a record deal... it felt like a movie... But with the excitement shelf life of an advertisement.

Outside of music, what is your biggest passion?

Animals.

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

There're so many, I love chatting so a professional chatter? Is that a job... Probably something in the Wine and Spirits industry I like all that sort of stuff...

And what advice would you give to other musicians looking to start a career in music?

Get ready to lose mountains of cash and make very little... But you will meet loads of nice people that will probably help you as much as you help them. It’s a tough industry so keep your chin up and wear body armour decorated with flowers... You must always look friendly. That is the secret... unless you’re in Slipknot... then be the opposite.
