What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The first instrument I ever learned was the piano but I fell in love with playing the guitar.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I grew up listening to radio music which consisted of pop, rap, and r&b. But pop would definitely be my favourite.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I ever owned was Mini Pop Kids 8 (Canadian version of Kidz Bop), and now I own a physical copy of Johnny Orlando’s ‘All the things that could go wrong' CD and Taylor Swift's “Midnights” vinyl.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

There are so many amazing songs in the world but a song that I wish I wrote myself would be ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry because it was like a childhood jam and that song had a grip on me. It is a good hype song and good for any occasion.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

When I write new music I tend to listen to the track first so I can come up with a good melody and hook, then the lyrics just flow to my brain.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

This is always a hard question… I listen to all genres of music and I love discovering emerging artists like myself and I have quite a few favourite musicians. I find myself listening to Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Chase Atlantic, Morgan Wallen, Hayley Kiyoko, Glades, Lana Del Rey, Alana Springsteen, NOTD and Astrid S a lot these days.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

If I could open a show for anyone in the world it would be Taylor Swift and Chase Atlantic. I’ve been to both of their concerts and I had the time of my life at both of them. They are amazing performers and I did not know post-concert depression was real until I balled my eyes out for the following weeks after the concert because of how good the show was.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The most rewarding part about being a musician is being discovered and working with different people from all over the world. A producer named Keplr (Sage Manners) reached out to me a while ago and we’ve released a couple songs together. In December my roommate and I decided to randomly travel to New York, and just so happened to be where Keplr was based out of and I got to meet him in person which was really cool.

And what is the most frustrating part?

I think the most frustrating part about being a musician is when I have trouble coming up with catchy lyrics and melodies.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

The best advice I’ve received was from Jessie Reyez when we were on set for her music video and she told me to just put myself out there and don’t be scared of rejection because at the end of the day there will always be someone with the same creative mindset as you and you just have to take a chance in order to be able to meet that person.
