Getting To Know... Joey Arias

After establishing himself with a string of highly-praised outings this past year, New York artist Joey Arias is now looking to cement his legacy to date with the release of his eagerly-awaited debut album 'Past Present Future'.

Capturing a wonderfully fresh and distinctive aesthetic for himself throughout this new offering, 'Past Present Future' makes for an incredibly powerful and driven listen. With his soul-infused vocals layered across a broad and diverse production from start to finish, this new fourteen-track collection presents him as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

THE VOICE OF BILLIE HOLIDAY.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I LOVED DANCE MUSIC, I LOVED JAZZ, I LOVED ROCK N ROLL.

What was the first album you remember owning?

THE BEATLES - SERGEANT PEPPER.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

COCKSUCKER BLUES - I KNOW IT WELL.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I LIKE TO WALK THE STREET OF MANHATTAN LATE AT NIGHT, PEOPLE INSPIRE ME ON THE STREET. NEW YORK IS MY LONGEST LOVE AFFAIR AND MOST POTENT INSPIRATION.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

LATELY I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO A LOT OF PHARRELL, JAMARIQUAI, AND PATTI LABELLE.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

THE POPE AT THE VATICAN.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

BEING ABLE TO CAPTIVATE AN AUDIENCE AND TAKE THEM TO ANOTHER DIMENSION.

And what is the most frustrating part?

PACKING AND UNPACKING.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

ALWAYS KEEP THE AUDIENCE WANTING MORE. REMEMBER JUST THE TIP!
