Getting To Know... Latir

Following the success of his previously shared singles ‘Blue Roses’, 'Juvenile Forever' and ‘Wallflower’, the latter of which received support from BBC 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova, Colors, The Line Of Best Fit, and both Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists. London’s soul troubadour Latir has now delivered his highly-anticipated new EP 'UNTIL FOREVER'.

Filled with bold and expressive soul from start to finish, 'UNTIL FOREVER' sees the frontman blossom from his conventional RnB ways to deliver something far more diverse and adventurous. With its broad and melancholic aesthetic, this new collection looks set to find the artist gathering even more momentum in the months to come.

So with his new release finally upon us, we sat down with him to find out more about his earliest beginnings and what first lit the fuse to his musical journey.

What were the first instruments you fell in love with?

Trumpet and sax as an adolescent falling in love with jazz… and then electric guitar moving back to London and falling in love with alt indie music.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

Love, its peaks and its lows! Followed closely by youth and all things that come with being infinitely in your most intensely felt moments.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

Jazz, RnB and hip hop!

Can you remember the first song that made you want to pursue a life in music?

I’m not sure of the song, but i know it was whilst hearing Kanye’s first two albums… the drums and the mood inspired me heavily! That and Pharrell’s ‘In My Mind’ album, i think anyway!

When you wake up in the morning, what kind of music do you like to listen to?

Alt Indie stuff! Nick Hakim, Puma Blue, etc

How many of your songs have you written about people in your life?

99% of them haha!

What have been the most memorable moments in your career so far?

Performing at O2 Kentish Town opening for my G Tokio Myers, hearing my song on BBC Radio 1 for the first time, being in the studio with Krept and Konan, finally releasing an EP i’d mentally been sitting on for years.

Outside of music, what is your biggest passion?

Basketball, poetry, exploring places and all things art!

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Honestly it might have been basketball if i was serious enough at a younger age, but otherwise nothing would have made sense! I graduated in Economics funnily enough, but passions grew elsewhere...

And what advice would you give to those looking to start a career in music?

Go in all steam ahead, create constantly and collaborate… no space for the half hearted in this career!
