Hayden Calnin - 'All Kinds Of Light'

8/10

Throughout his illustrious career to date, Australian singer-songwriter Hayden Calnin has established himself as one of the more emotive names doing the rounds. Seeking to explore a more wondrous approach than many of his peers, his sound so far has been this incredible explorative affair that always looks to push the boundaries of his own aesthetic as often as possible. And after a flurry of widely-praised efforts these last few months, he now returns with his latest EP 'All Kinds Of Light', a release that broadens his musical horizons once again.

Opening up with the instrumental offering 'Greetings At Majuy', we get an instant sense of what this new collection has in store for us. As it plays, we find Calnin in this beautifully passionate persona as he blends a broad and diverse approach to production with his own soaring vocal performance to create one of his more evocative outings yet. Continuing that immersive texture that has always been a part of his tenure, 'All Kind Of Light' has this incredibly absorbing feel to it, one that pulls you in and never lets you go.

These last few years have certainly been a great time for innovation and self-discovery, but 'All Kinds Of Light' shows he is still brimming with plenty of adventurous spirit throughout. With a solid production and an inventive approach to songwriting across all eight tracks, Hayden Calnin returns to the fold with some of his most transportive offerings to date.
