The Horn - 'People Like Us'

7/10

Over the past two years, London five-piece The Horn have been making a name for themselves on the indie pop-rock scene with a project that has displayed their versatility and strength of character. They might still be relatively unknown, but for those who have crossed the path of this British fivesome, and we count ourselves among that number, The Horn leaves a lasting impression. Their landmark debut LP, ‘People Like Us’, confirms them as a promising addition to the UK’s renowned indie-rock scene. The record is comprised of all the tracks that the band have released thus far, including debut single ‘Passion’, beautifully warm and embracing indie-rock groove ‘Too Many Moments’ and heady dose of fresh and alluring 60s-inspired gold ‘Power Show’.

This album brings together everything that makes The Horn such an exciting venture, from Brit-pop informed melodies to psychedelic undertones to good old indie-rock rhythms. Some aspects of the record present a conventional through-line of these genres, but there are flashes of startling originality that make you sit up and listen closer. The songwriting behind ‘Always Late’ is especially fresh with the little explored theme of being the type of person who lets time slip through their fingers. The production, provided by the band’s own Danny Monk and Danton Supple (Coldplay, Elbow) is also stellar work, giving the whole album a warm and refined atmosphere.

The arrival of ‘People Like Us’ comes just ahead of The Horn’s tour with British staple Scouting For Girls, which could be yet another sign of great things to come for this band on the rise.
