Over these last few months, Southend-On-Sea-based artist I Am No Longer A Ghost has established himself as one of the more innovative names rising through the ranks. Delivering a heady mix of indie-folk, emo, and metal across a wave of much-loved offerings this past year, his reputation for unique and spellbinding compositions has been totally cemented lately. And with the buzz around him continuing to grow, he now delivers his eagerly-awaited self-titled debut album, a record that pushes his distinctive direction as far as it will go.
Featuring the previously shared gems 'Either', 'Burial Gown' and 'Crossroads Of Hectare', this thirteen-track offering makes for a wonderfully rich and alluring listen. Keeping much closer to the folk influences than his other inspirations throughout this new outing, 'I Am No Longer A Ghost' looks to continue that adventurous streak with some beautifully arranged soundscapes as often as possible. Described as a concept LP inspired by Halloween imagery, his first full-length introduces him to the fold as one of the more endearing names on the new music scene right now.
It may sound like an unholy mismatch of genres, but 'I Am No Longer A Ghost' perfectly levels these contrasting elements into a bold and progressive listen throughout. Brimming with a tenacious fire burning within him, he is certainly someone we need to be keeping a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
