Jessie Ware - 'What's Your Pleasure?'

8/10

Ever since the release of her bold and vibrant debut album 'Devotion' in 2012, singer Jessie Ware has always been an artist with two sides to her persona. While her solo work across the last eight years has been a fresh and pulsing pop intention, many will know her for her collaborative work with the likes of Disclosure, SBTRKT and Julio Bashmore at the start of her career, making her name just as synonymous with those in the clubs as those listening on the radio. And it feels like she is finally ready to bring these two worlds together as her fourth full-length 'What's Your Pleasure?' sees her more dancefloor orientated that ever before.

Produced alongside super producer James Ford, best know for his work in Simian Mobile Disco, Clarence Coffee Jr. (Dua Lipa, Lizzo) and Metronomy's Joe Mount, 'What's Your Pleasure?' was deliberately designed to be the biggest departure from her usual guise since she first went solo as we see her explore the world of nu-disco with an unabashed keenness throughout. While she obviously delivers a few slower offerings to show off those stunning pipes once again, the majority of this new collection is focused firmly on giving the listener something to dance to, showing a more fun side to Ware's consistently uplifting aesthetic.

Inspired heavily by the retro disco sound, which has managed to penetrate the direction of many pop-laden superstars over the last few years, 'What's Your Pleasure?' could well become Jessie Ware's most memorable collection of tracks to date. While she has obviously released a string of stunning bangers for years, there is something about this record that has a timeless feel and is likely to see her pursue more of this material again in the future.
