Kali Uchis - 'Red Moon In Venus'

8/10

When Kali Uchis released her breakthrough debut album 'Isolation' in 2018, she was greeted as one of the more innovative names emerging on the R&B scene. With a wonderfully adventurous and diverse approach to her sound, she quickly earned a reputation for fresh and forward-thinking aesthetics, which then flowed into her Spanish-speaking sophomore collection 'Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)' two years later. And after a few years to figure out her next move, she returns with her third studio outing 'Red Moon In Venus', a record that rekindles all of that inventive magic throughout.

Kali Uchis' eclectic appeal can be put down to the progressive production team throughout her career, and the line-up on 'Red Moon In Venus' is no different. With the likes of Omar Apollo, Cashmere Cat, Benny Blanco and many more all adding their own distinctive flair to the release, she is able to spread her creative wings as often as possible, continuing her pursuit of original yet enticing flavours. Led by her own mesmerising vocal performance once again, she is returning with a beautifully warm and inviting offering here.

While Kali Uchis remains an integral part of today's R&B movement, she is also one of the flag bearers for a new and exciting generation within the genre. Brimming with bright and explorative ideas from start to finish, 'Red Moon In Venus' sees her continue to impress at every turn.
