Kimberly Morgan York - 'Devil Songs And Other Such Nonsense'

7/10

After making a strong impact with her stunning initial LPs 'Keep On Goin'' and 'Found Yourself A Lady' last year, Athens, Georgia's Kimberly Morgan York has been quick to cement herself as one of the more enticing names on the US country scene. Despite both of those records originally written years before their eventual release, she has maintained a solid foundation from where to take her sound next. And now looks to build upon that positive ascent as she returns with her vibrant new EP 'Devil Songs And Other Such Nonsense', a release brimming with progressive ideals.

While her sound cultivates plenty of traditional country-inspired aesthetics throughout, she is always looking to find new and interesting directions in which to take it, something 'Devil Songs And Other Such Nonsense' has in spades. Honing some of her more heartfelt moments throughout, and occasionally picking the pace up from time to time, this new four-track collection makes for a beautifully alluring listen, bringing back more of that driven style she is quickly establishing for herself right now.

Although these last few years have certainly been a great time for self-discovery and innovation, 'Devil Songs And Other Such Nonsense' shows that she is still brimming with plenty of tantalising ideas at every turn. With such warm and inviting vocals leading the charge, Kimberly Morgan York is certainly a name worth keeping a firm eye on for the years ahead as well.
