Lapalux - 'Ruinism'

7/10

For the the last few years, producer Stuart Howard aka Lapalux has been one of the most diverse and interesting producers working today. His previous two albums 'Nostalchic' and 'Lustmore' have been considered some of the most forward-thinking electronic records of the last few years, and now he plans to make it three in a row with the release of his latest full-length 'Ruinism', a record that proves to be just as boundary pushing as his last.

Opting for more of an atmospheric direction this time around, 'Ruinism' is that subtle blend of off-kilter glitch electronica and haunting melodies probably best associated with his label boss Flying Lotus. Moving through the tracks at a steady pace, the record never really tries to jar you regardless of what its intentions may sound like. Instead we are treated to a bold and engaging release that looks to excite as well as impress.

It may lack some of that instant wow factor his older albums had, but Lapalux has still managed to deliver the goods. 'Ruinism' feels like another step in the right direction for the producer as he looks to push the envelope of his sound once again.
