M.I.A. confirms new documentary 'MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A.'

Having been promising a new documentary about her rise from refugee to international superstar for a number of years, M.I.A. has now confirmed the release date for her upcoming film.

The new documentary 'MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A.' chronicles the life of the musician; from her time growing up in Sri Lanka with the name Matangi, to fleeing the country for the UK and becoming Maya, before finally seeing her rise to fame under the pseudonym M.I.A.

The film is set to be released on the 21st September to mark World Refugee Day, and you can check out a quick interview the frontwoman did with director Steve Loveridge about the documentary when it was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year in the player below.
