Missing Pet - 'Sentimental Germ'

7/10

After introducing himself with a series of experimental genre-fluid alt-pop singles in 2021, Toronto based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Marek Platek has spent the last few years developing his Missing Pet project into something far more immersive. Taking a break from releasing new music last year, he is now ready to bring his varied approach to sound back to the fold with his eagerly-awaited debut EP 'Sentimental Germ', a collection that brims with broad and tantalising ideas from start to finish.

While still very much in that innovative electro-pop/rock arena he first arrived in, 'Sentimental Germ' feels far more adventurous than anything he has produced prior. Blending this dark yet upbeat production with some brilliantly riveting hooks throughout, his first four-track offering makes for a wonderfully inventive listen from start to finish. Building upon the enigmatic foundations he originally set for himself, Missing Pet returns for this new year revitalised and rejuvenated at every turn.

Although his initial run of releases certainly made a bold impression on the scene, 'Sentimental Germ' feels like a bold step forward within his musical evolution to date. Creating this brilliantly immersive aesthetic throughout, Missing Pet continue their ascent as one of the more unpredictable names rising through the ranks right now.
