Mt. Wolf - 'Aetherlight'

8/10

After years of EPs and single releases, London-based trio Mt. Wolf have finally completed their first major milestone by releasing their long-awaited debut studio album. Yet despite a wealth of back-catalogue material they could have resurrected for this new release, the band have opted to create a largely unheard body of work for their initial full-length, making this feel like a far more cohesive piece.

And while much of their older material was draped in a layer of electronics, for 'Aetherlight', the band have minimised their synth-led influence in space of creating more organic and analogue soundscapes. With a strong and bold sense of atmospheric throughout, this new record not only aims to display a new beginning for the band, but also make an intention of how they see themselves going forward.

It has been made clear that Mt. Wolf are certainly not novices in the recorded field, but this new release seems to breathe a sense of uplifting, new life into the band. They sound confident and developed in their writing, making for a glorious first album.
