National Security Band - 'Critical Sound Theory'

7/10

US trio National Security Band have always been ones to project a more illuminating presence on today's scene. With their previous records 'Biomimicry' and 'Total Information Awareness' heightening that rich and dynamic aesthetic they have explored this past decade, there has always been something new and interesting for them to pursue with every new release. And with their progressive ideals still making a serious mark, they return with their eagerly-awaited third studio album 'Critical Sound Theory'.

While prog-rock certainly seems to be the venture for this new outing, 'Critical Sound Theory' comes across as a far more diverse and eclectic listen throughout. With these raw and thunderous guitar hooks that permeate every minute of their latest material, this new collection sees them in a more explorative light. Moving effortlessly throughout its eight-track runtime, they find and cultivate a multitude of enigmatic pursuits here, building upon their already fascinating legacy to date.

National Security Band have always searched for sounds that allow them to stand out from the herd, and 'Critical Sound Theory' is no different. Creating some brilliantly infectious grooves as often as possible, they return in confident spirits here.
