The Night Café - '0151'

7/10

Having spent the last few years building up their fanbase with a series of stunning single and EP releases, Liverpool's The Night Café have quickly become one of the most in-demand acts this country has to offer. With their sweeping and captivating rhythms, the group have looked to reestablish Liverpool as the hub of bold and original new music, and look to continue their upward ascent as they deliver their heavily-hyped debut album '0151', a release that looks to bring together their all their influences and inspirations into one well-paced and succinct initial offering.

From the start, '0151' is about inviting you in with warm and enticing riffs that have quickly become the signature for this group. But as it plays, you feel a sense that things are always getting better, as they move through an ever-increasing flow that becomes punctuated with tracks like 'Felicity', 'Please' and 'Turn'. Coming in at a whopping 18-tracks and over an hour in length, this debut LP is less about giving the audience a taste of what The Night Café represent and more about putting everything they have on the table, making this one of the more intriguing and engaging debut releases of this year so far.

With its rather bulky tracklisting, there are a few moments that the dampen the pace they create early one on the record, but it always manages to throw something new and exciting into the mix just when it feels like things are winding down. It has been a long-time coming for this outfit, but their debut album is one that you'll find yourself coming back to again and again.
