Night's Bright Colors - 'Lanterna Magica'

7/10

When they returned with their vibrant self-titled comeback LP in 2023, US outfit Night's Bright Colors instantly rekindled the beloved indie-pop auras their initial run of releases were renowned for. Capturing this beautifully rich and riveting array of textures across a dynamic burst of inspiration in the months afterwards, the band's resurgence has seen them go from humble upstarts to one of the more captivating names on the scene. And with last year proving one of their most productive years on record, they are now cementing this era within their legacy with their sprawling new album 'Lanterna Magica', a collection that brims with rich and alluring tone throughout.

Much like what these recent months have been showcasing, 'Lanterna Magica' takes the fundamentals of their kaleidoscopic sound and pushes them further than ever before. Dabbling in a broader and more adventurous approach to songwriting this time around, their newest twelve-track offering finds them in wonderfully inventive spirits as they look to embrace a more eclectic direction at every opportunity. Whether its the spacey psych-rock pursuits of 'Woke Up' or the bouncing endeavours of 'The Grand Society', Night's Bright Colors always manage to find something new and interesting in which to take their sound here.

It may have come after an incredibly busy time for them, but 'Lanterna Magica' shows they are still oozing with plenty of fresh and enchanting ideas in which to pursue. With such vibrancy within their production from start to finish, they remain one of the more compelling names on the rise right now.
