Peace - 'Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll'

7/10

Over the years, Worcester's Peace have been one of the very few indie bands to actually maintain a high level of acclaim and quality. Their first two studio albums 'In Love' and 'Happy People' gave us some exceptionally juicy singles, but as they move into LP number three, the band seem more assured of themselves and the number of bold chances are more restrained this time around.

Rather than opt for a mix of ideas and directions, the band have focused themselves far more on this release, giving us a real ebb and flow as it plays. The record's title-track has this humbled 'Sgt. Pepper's' kind of vibe, while recent single 'You Don't Walk Away From Love' gives us a taste of their more pop-friendly side. The result is a controlled yet diverse record that aims to cast a wide net of appeal without going to far down the rabbit hole.

It may be the confidence they have gained over the years, but this seems like a band more secure with what they stand for now. It may not have that instant grab appeal of their previous albums, but still manages to surprise when it needs to.
