Redlight - 'X Colour'

6/10

While 2010-2011 could be considered as peak Redlight time, with the producers anthemic singles 'Get Out Of My Head' and 'Lost In Your Love' dominating the dancefloors of nightclubs up and down the country, the popular bass producer has since stepped away from his more familiar sound to deliver a far more bassline driven debut album. And while the need for albums in the electronic community has been found to be more and more redundant over the last couple of years, Redlight has used the medium to create a vast array of different musical directions.

With a number of guest vocalists including rapper Prodigy, Roses Gabor, ASTR and many others, Redlight has aimed to make this new album as eclectic as possible. While it starts with a more bass-orientated house sound thanks to single 'Gold Teeth', the album quickly looks to change its expected pace, whether it be the pop-trap production of 'Shine' or the tribal percussion of 'Lion Jungle'. 'X Colour' is less of a statement of current intentions and more of a producer looking to spread his creative wings as far as possible.

Yet because of this varied medley of different influences and directions, it does become difficult to sit through the whole release. It is one of those albums where you will find yourself skipping through tracks, just to play your favourites and not a record that looks to flow steadily from start to finish.
