Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique - 'Love Is Free'

7/10

Following on from her brilliant joint EP with Norwegian tech-giants Röyksopp last year, Robyn is back on the team up, this time with La Bagatelle Magique, a small project started by her live keyboard player Markus Jägerstedt and producer Christian Falk. And while Falk sadly passed away in 2014, the pair still continued to work on the project, releasing this short mini-album 'Love Is Free' as a result.

The five-track release may be short but it really knows how to pack a punch. Choosing a more electro direction, 'Love Is Free' gives a real insight into what is beginning to take off in the rest of Europe. While most are still flogging the house music bandwagon, this release shows that there is still real appeal left in a hard and louder form of electronic music. By giving it a more post-modern and experimental sound, the pair have managed to create a really engaging release.

Fans of Robyn's solo work will definitely notice her influence on this new record as its pop sensibilities remain one of the most obvious points of reference. But it is still an incredibly fun release, something that can't be ignored.
