Sam Smith becomes first artist to sell 1million albums in the UK and US this year

Showing off his sheer dominance in the international music scene this year, crooning popstar Sam Smith has now become the first artist this year to simultaneously sell 1million records in both the UK and US.

His debut album 'In The Lonely Hour' has become the second album in the UK to pass the milestone this year after Ed Sheeran's 'X' managed the feat last month, and follows behind Taylor Swift's '1989' and the 'Frozen' soundtrack which have both dominated America's music sales.

The album, which became the fastest selling record of year when it was released in May, has only spent one week out of the top 5 so far this year, and is currently up for six Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year.
