Sea Girls - 'Midnight Butterflies'

7/10

Ever since they first emerged, Sea Girls have been one of the indie-rock scene's more popular outfits. Blending euphoric hooks with a distinctly commercial edge has brought them plenty of mainstream attention, as well as countless notable live appearances on some of the country's biggest festival stages. But with the band no longer with their formative label Polydor, the shackles are now off as they return with their third studio album 'Midnight Butterflies', a record that looks to deliver some truly anthemic outings.

While their direction has always been this mix of driven guitar belters and more sombre aesthetics, 'Midnight Butterflies' only seems interested in the former as they unleash some truly bright and uplifting efforts here. Building upon the mainstage favourites within their catalogue so far to create some brilliantly infectious outings, Sea Girls find themselves pushing their sound as far as it will go, making light work of these toe-tapping entries along the way.

Although breaking away from a large record label like Polydor can be a mixed bag in terms of opportunities and growth, 'Midnight Butterflies' shows that they are more than ready to keep their momentum going without them. Cementing more of that lively energy they are known for, these new offerings are certainly going to get crowds moving again this festival season.
