Sisyphes announce self-titled debut EP

Sisyphes \si.zif\ is the new, Margate-based project by former La Houle guitarist and songwriter Geoffrey Papin, along with his partner in crime, Clémentine Blue (Tiger Lion), John Davies (Michael A Grammar, Traams) and Jimi Tormey (Gang). Their unique part-pop, part-dreamy and definitely alternative sound features elements of the avant-pop music of Stereolab, Broadcast and Julien Gasc, wavy guitars and synths inherited from shoegaze, and touch of French synthwave.

In preparation of the release of their debut album later in 2020, the band are now releasing an eponymous EP, containing their first two singles and a brand new track, ‘Nos Regrets’. Subtitled ‘On a 2.0 Man facing the annihilation of his humanity’, the track’s lyrics reflect a state of uncertainty which will resonate with many, the voice of a fragmented, even jittery personality set against a percussive landscape that still manages to maintain some of the dreamier elements that are more typical of the Sisyphes sound.

Of the track, Geoffrey says, "'Nos Regrets' is by far the most poetic song of this album. It’s a 5/4 time signature but robotic with a strong grove. The track explores the idea of a human encased by a digital algorithm which he cannot escape, slowly being desensitised."

‘Nos Regrets’ was written by Geoffrey Papin and produced by Franklin Mockett & Geoffrey Papin. All tracks contained in the EP will be featured in the forthcoming debut album ‘Deviant Pop’, due to be released later in 2020.
