The Snuts - 'W.L.'

7/10

Having spent the last few years releasing a flurry of incredible and driven indie-rock stunners, including last year's formative collection 'The Mixtape' EP, The Snuts have quickly found themselves as the next golden child of the new music scene of late. But with so much buzz and acclaim behind them already, we knew that a debut album wasn't far from their sights. So after a few more months to gather their direction, they return with their formative effort 'W.L.', a record that looks to cement their legacy to date.

With such a progressive catalogue of tunes to pick from on this release, 'W.L.' looks to be more of a collection of their work to date rather than something new and different for their fans to digest. And while it is great to hear so many of their anthems finally together on one album, we are also introduced to a broad and euphoric array of spritely new numbers as well, creating this retrospective look at their sound to date. While it would have been nice to be treated to more original cuts on here, the band's sound is so tightly-knit right now, it never feels like it strays from their core intentions at all.

From the start, The Snuts have always wanted to stand out from the crowd and that is exactly what they achieve on this new offering. Never ones to fall into the safe and comfortable laurels of the indie-rock scene, they create a blistering and captivating full-length that always feels one step ahead at every turn.
