Soulsavers - 'Kubrick'

8/10

Fresh off the back of releasing their second collaborative album with Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, ‘Angels & Ghosts', in October, Soulsavers are back to unveil a brand new studio album of their own. Having been renowned for their use of powerful strings and anthemic musical backdrops, the band's co-founder Rich Machin has admitted that this new record is aiming to be more moving than their previous and it certainly sounds that way.

Named after the legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, the duo have set out to take inspiration from the cinematic genius as the canvas for this new album. Remnants of awe are laden throughout this release as if you are rewatching '2001: A Space Odyssey' with a new soundtrack. Each track seems to run with its own emotion, creating an equally diverse record that manages to stay engaging and interesting throughout.

Certainly another great piece from these two curators. And while you could say this is more of a concept album, the way it holds together is simply magnificent and manages to create a beauty all within itself.
